This Sunday (28 June 2026) 2-4pm we have South Leeds Community Band coming to entertain us in the performance area. Part of our summer programme, this is a free event as usual, so everyone is invited. The cafe will be open for refreshments, including ice cream.
South Leeds Community Band is Middleton’s local brass band, holding their rehearsals on alternate Saturday mornings in St Cross Church Hall. They have been invited to Middleton Park before but been thwarted by the rain. This time it looks as though sun hats and long sleeves will be the order of the day to protect against the heat.
Band Leader Dave Ellis says:
“I love heading up this group of great individuals! Some young, some old. Some shy, some confident. Some been playing for years, others just learning. Together we are encouraging each other to make a great sound whilst having fun as we do it.
“We play all-sorts of stuff together from Ravel’s Bolero and Glenn Miller, to Bohemian Rhapsody and Sweet Caroline. Items from musicals like Hairspray and Riverdance, movies like Mary Poppins and Shrek, and music from new artists like Billie Eilish and George Ezra. We have over 80 pieces of music we can have a crack at.
“So please come and enjoy the music in Middleton Park this Sunday. 2-4pm!”
