Summat to discuss on Saturday

This Saturday Leeds for Change, a local campaigning network, hosts Summat 2016, a gathering for all those in Leeds and the surrounding area who want to make positive social change.

This is the fourth Summat event over the last seven years which will bring together over 40 local activist, community, and campaigning groups for a day of workshops, stalls, panels, and kids activities run by the Woodcraft Folk.

Speakers are coming from around the country and workshops are being held on flooding, HIV services, housing and so much more. It’s not all learning and discussion, there’s also a two hour choir workshop that will raise voices for change at the end of the day.

The event has had a lot of success in the past with Laura McFarlane-Shopes, one of the organisers, saying:

“We’re really excited for the fourth Summat gathering. The first three event attracted 2700 people and created hundreds of connections for social change. It’s wonderful seeing people inspired to take action, whether it’s something small and personal or taking on the big issues of our time.”

Sharon came to the 2014 event with a group from the Together Women Project, stayed for the whole 14 hours and at the end said: “We’ve lived in Leeds all our lives and had no idea all this was happening”.

Summat is this Saturday (23 April 2016) in the Michael Sadler building of Leeds University, running between 9am-6pm. More information about the event can be found on the Leeds for Change website or through the Facebook event.
