The fundraising drive at St Francis of Assisi Primary School in Beeston Hill, to refurbish their outdoor play area, continues – with a well-attended summer fair last weekend (Sunday 30 June 2019) raising another £700 towards their £10,000 minimum target.
As previously reported (here and here), the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) have worked hard over the past school year, holding events and projects to raise cash to overhaul their out-of-date playground. They have now hit the £7,000 mark, and are aiming to get over the finishing line by Christmas.
Last weekend’s sun-baked event saw 100+ families, staff members, and local residents descend on the school – for dance performances (expertly coached over the previous months by teacher Jack Cooper), stalls, competitions, lots of ice cream and candy floss, inflatables and games, music, and more.
Amanda Cawthorne, of the PTA, commented:
“This event, and the whole fundraising push, have been hard work – but then Sunday was amazing, with parents and locals all coming out to support us, and that made it worthwhile. Thank you so much to everyone who helped out! Our kids deserve a top-quality new playground – and although we’re doing well, we’ve still got a fair way to go. All help welcome!”
