St Francis of Assisi Primary School in Beeston Hill are setting their sights on a new improved playground and outdoor space – with the children, parents, staff and other local supporters aiming to raise £10,000 over the course of this school year.
The fundraising campaign is being led by the voluntary Parents Teacher Association (PTA), and will take many forms. In particular, the organisers are planning a ‘Holly Bazaar’ Christmas Fair on Thursday 20 December (3.15pm-5pm) – and are appealing to the local community for donations for tombolas and raffles. And they will also be holding after-school craft nights, for children to make decorations to be sold at the fair.
The coming half term will also feature a ‘penny war’, with the school classes competing against one another to collect as much spare change as they can over the space of a fortnight. Further ideas for the New Year include a sponsored walk – and the PTA members stress that they are open to new ideas from other supporters.

“Our pupils deserve a playground that they can learn in and enjoy, so we urgently need your help. Thank you to everyone who’s getting involved – including all those putting extra time after school. And huge thank you to our acting headteacher Mrs Snebjkova-Taylor, without whose hard work these events wouldn’t be possible. We just want the best for our children – so please help us in our journey. It will dramatically improve our children’s learning and fitness.”
