South Leeds unites to host the Bah Humbug 10k

Sunday 9 December 2018 saw the Hunslet Rugby Foundation, Morley Running Club, South Leeds Lakers and South Leeds Sisters join forces to host the inaugural Bah Humbug 10k.

Setting off on the track at South Leeds Stadium runners, many wearing festive fancy dress, were soon faced with the infamous Scrooge Hill as they headed for the ancient woodland of Middleton Woods. A winding trail route and ascent to the visitors centre had runners wondering where the spirit of Christmas had gone, however, glorious weather coupled with a sprint finish on the athletics track meant all was forgiven as tired but elated runners crossed the finish line.

Race organiser Phil Hodgson commented:

“Running in South Leeds has exploded over the last few years. There is fantastic camaraderie between the clubs so what better way to celebrate this than by putting on a great event for the wider running community at Christmas”.

And what a great event it proved to be.  The sell out race raised over £2000 which will be ploughed back into sports development in the community.  As well as the main race over 30 children took part in a 2 lap fun run with Harry the Hawk and runners donated mountains of clothes to St George’s Crypt to help support the homeless in the city.

The race was won by Rothwell Harrier James Mace in 40.43 mins, however, South Leeds Laker Keelan Henry put in a great performance finishing in 8th place in a very respectable 42.43.
