South Leeds Roundup: Woods, whittling, wobble & blub

Here’s your regular roundup of what’s making South Leeds tick on other websites, blogs and across Facebook and Twitter.

We start this week in Middleton Park, that green gem in the heart of South Leeds. There’s lots going on …

Those of you that walk your dogs in Middleton Woods will be familiar with additional earthworks appearing on the woodland paths. In case you didn’t know it’s often down to mountain bikers, you can see some interesting videos and photos at South Leeds MTB.

Meanwhile over 1,000 people have signed an online petition calling on Leeds City Council to build a cycling trail centre in Middleton Park.

Also frustrated at the slow progress of improvements to the park, Middleton Park FC have started another online petition. It calls on Cllr Judith Blake to allow them to take over the old golf course building in the park and create a new pitch.

There are lots more photos on the Friends of Middleton Park page, including a busy Apple Day event last Sunday plus lots of autumn colour and a few sunsets.

Bonfire night will soon be upon us and the Inner South Community Committee are advertising a completion for children to design a poster for the Middleton Park bonfire and fireworks display.

Hedgehog houses, whittling, fires, and a autumn explore of what’s growing on the site are on offer at Skelton Grange Environment Centre this Friday (23 October) when they welcome autumn.

If you’ve ever wondered about who lives at Bewerley Croft in Beeston, read a day in the life on the Better Lives For People In Leeds blog, posted for World Mental Health Day.

It’s National Adoption Week and Child Friendly Leeds has published a series of posts including a first hand experience of becoming adoptive parents.

Fitness blogger Debs Davies isn’t doing much exercise at the moment, but has written this week about surviving injury on her Rosetinted blog.

Meanwhile that other Beeston running blogger Ewan Mitchell has run his first Marathon. Read the whole emotional journey (including the portaloo) on his Run Sancho Run blog.

Lensa’s been on a different emotional journey as her daughter started nursery this week. ‘Wobble and Blub’ is a terrific headline for a post, read it on her Sojourner’s Musings blog.

It’s half term next week which means The Works Skatepark will have longer opening hours, they are also celebrating Halloween on Saturday 31 October with the Day of the Dead event from 10am-7pm.

Speaking of Halloween, Beeston’s Brew Coffee Shop has a lonely skeleton in the corner (He has nobody with him, geddit?). We hope it’s not a comment on the food or speed of service!

News of a webchat and about staying safe online on the Inner South Neighbourhood Policing Team plus officers recovered a stolen moped in Middleton and arrested a man in connection with the offence.

And finally, down at H2010 on the riverside in Hunslet the community are upset with the developer Miller Homes and the mess they appear to have left behind. On a more positive note some of the residents have set up their own informal parent & baby group.
