South Leeds Roundup: Winter, Wildlife and Wildcats

Here’s your regular roundup of what’s making South Leeds tick on other websites, blogs and across Facebook.

Skelton SunriseWe start with another stunning photo from the good people at Skelton Grange Environment Centre. This was sunrise last Friday. They also have news of volunteering and training opportunities for fruit pruning, hedge laying, soil preparation and other winter tasks.

We’ve mention before that a group are hoping to turn the disused Holbeck Viaduct into a walk/cycleway/park. It’s good to see the idea endorsed in this Yorkshire Evening Post editorial as an example of the vision that Leeds needs.

If you’d been wondering how Beeston food blogger Ewan Mitchell was getting on with his sponsored pig “Breakfast”, go over to Everything But The Oink to find out all about devilled kidneys.

Helen & Kirsty at South Leeds Community Radio are asking readers to design their perfect boy/girlfriend ahead of the February Bookclub which will be discussing ‘How To Love Like A Hot Chick’.

We reported on problems with the two week bin collections in Middleton, there’s more debate over at the Westwood Community Association.

Beeston & Holbeck Councillor, Adam Ogilvie, looks ahead to 2014 on Better Lives For People In Leeds, the blog about the Councils Adult social care services.

Never mind Winter Watch, there’s a winter wildlife event with Friends of Middleton Park here in South Leeds on Sunday. They’ll be exploring the woods to see what wildlife they can find at this time of year.

Still basking in their Lazenby Cup win over the Rhinos, Hunslet Hawks have introduced a Junior membership package for just £3 per month including a season ticket. They’ve posted video highlights of the Rhinos game or you can see them in the flesh on Sunday as they take on the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, under 16s are free.

And finally, there’s lots going on a Beeston Parish Centre, but they are still looking for new ideas. They’ve had some suggestions (sewing, baking, photography) they are now looking for people to sign up as participants or organisers.
