Here’s your regular roundup of what’s making South Leeds tick on other websites, blogs and across Facebook.

We start this week with more previews of the Leeds Waterfront Festival which takes place at various venues including Leeds Dock in Hunslet on Saturday and Sunday (28 & 29 June 2014). Over on The Culture Vulture there is an interview with organisers Sue Jennings and Lucy Meredith. Whilst Leeds City Council focus on events at the wonderful Thwaite Mills museum in Stourton (pictured).

The Hamara Centre hosted a celebration event for Supplementary Schools in the city, which help children from immigrant families with their ‘home language’.

Policing will be on the agenda at Beeston Community Forum next Thursday (3 July 2014) when guest speakers will be West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns Williamson and Inner South Neighbourhood Police Inspector Chris Bowen.

Speaking of the police, they are appealing for witnesses after an assault outside a shop on Dewsbury Road, Beeston. Meanwhile their off road motorbike team paid a visit to Beeston Primary School where they were a big hit. By the way Facebook users in Belle Isle and Middleton who liked the old Rothwell NPT page need to like the Inner South NPT page to keep up to date following the reorganisation of policing teams.

South Leeds blogger Jodie has posted this week asking the volunteers’ age old question: why, if she’s so good at explaining social media to tenants, won’t anyone employ her to do it? A worthy rant on tiamo77uk.

Food blogger Ewan Mitchell’s World Cup Food Challenge continues on his Tonight’s Menu blog. This week he’s been cooking Ecuadorian goat stew and Swiss beer fondue.

John Cockburn has some interesting posts this week on his blog What Can I Do About It? He considers how everyday tedium dampens the fire of protest and the timescale of moral outrage. Worth a look.

The Yorkshire Evening Post has had another busy week in South Leeds. They covered the break in at Middleton Park FC; the recycling operation at Martin’s in Beeston; the signing of a construction contract for the new Lane End Primary School and the aftermath for the victim of the boy racer who crashed closing Dewsbury Road last month.

The 150th anniversary of rugby in Leeds was celebrated by Hunslet Hawks who also reported on Harry the Hawk’s busy weekend at Hunslet Gala and Middleton Park sports day.

Get your tickets now! New Bewerley Community School tweeted a link to the West Yorkshire Playhouse where their pupils will be performing a Shakespearian production combining The Tempest and Twelfth Night.

Sticking with schools, Miss Pickard, Principal at Park View Primary Academy in Beeston blogs about their recent Ofsted inspection which declared the school was ‘Good’. Well done to all involved.

The Friends of Middleton Park remind you to take part in the consultation about the proposed closure of Middleton Park Golf Course. They have photos from their celebration of dance and a preview of Caspar and the Fleas ukulele band who play this week.

And finally, the Friends of New Forest Village have announced their Family Fun Day will be on Sunday 13 July at the Leeds Corinthians rugby ground.
