South Leeds Roundup: Marketing, marriage and match days

Here’s your regular roundup of what’s making South Leeds tick on other websites, blogs and across Facebook and Twitter.

We start this week with the Holbeck Viaduct Project, or Holbeck Highline, if you prefer, which is revamping its website. It’s looking good and we understand it’s a work in progress but we would encourage them to describe Leeds in 1800 as a market town, rather than a marketing town.

Never mind painting the Forth Bridge, what about housework? Here’s Lensa’s take on the subject on her Sojourners Musings blog.

Meanwhile on her Wondering The World blog, Hannah Reid takes stock as she prepares for married life.

It’s a ‘Summer of Play’ at The Tetley art gallery in Hunslet. This Saturday (8 August) take your bike and have a go on the Northshore bike track which will be outside on Brewery Green.

The second Cop Shop Memory Café was a great hit with over 30 people suffering from dementia and their carers attending according to the Inner South Neighbourhood Policing Team.

The South Leeds Life product placement prize this week goes to Housing Leeds who successfully posted a photograph with a copy of our newspaper from the Digital Angels launch event at BITMO. We’ll have the full story of the launch shortly.

If you can’t get to the seaside, try the beach in town. Millennium Square is being turned into a beach from Saturday (8 August) for a month reports the Inner South Community Committee.

South Leeds Live At Home which provides support and activities for older people in Beeston, Cottingley and Hunslet has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £500 so that they can fit a wheelchair lift to their minibus. They are also holding their Summer Fayre on Saturday (8 August).

Holbeck’s own theatre Slung Low, was featured in a great write up in The Guardian this week.

And finally, as the football season kicks off this weekend The Old Peacock, that match day institution for Leeds United fans has started a blog. As well as news of their improved facilities, they preview the first home games of the season and will host an evening with John Lukic next month.
