South Leeds Roundup: Litter bins, blogs and Easter eggs

Here’s your regular roundup of what’s making South Leeds tick on other websites and blogs.

We covered the furore about Tony Harrison’s poem “V” which was written about Holbeck Cemetery and broadcast on Radio 4 recently. Over in the Yorkshire Evening Post Oliver Cross has written a rather good piece about the poem in his column.

Easter EggstavaganzaFriends of New Forest Village are planning an Easter Eggstravaganza for Good Friday, they also have a PACT meeting coming up on 5th March at 6:30pm at the St George’s Centre.

Westwood Community Association in Middleton have successfully lobbied for more litter bins, which have been paid for by the local Councillors. They are now discussing where the bins should be sited over on their Facebook Group.

Beeston in Bloom have moved their blog. You can now find all their news, including their latest work party at the Cardinal Triangle and details of their next meeting on 4th March at beestonblooms.blogspot.co.uk.

Aire Valley Homes have a very active Facebook page with all sorts of useful information from keeping warm to the restart of brown bin collections.

Voice of Holbeck have a reminder on their Facebook page that they’re meeting on Thursday 28th at 7:00pm at Cleveleys Court.

Finally, South Leeds Life’s upcoming meeting about the future of Stank Hall Barn was covered by The Guardian on their Northerner Blog. They report the legend that the barn was built from the same timbers as Christopher Columbus’ ships. You can come and find out if the story is true at the meeting tomorrow (Thursday), at 7:00pm at the Beeston Village Community Centre on St Anthony’s Drive.
