We start this week down at The Works skate park in Hunslet. As well the many great things they do with scooters and skateboards, yesterday they held a ‘foam gun thunder’ event. We just hope the photographer got out of the way before the kids fired!
With Christmas over people are looking forward to Valentine’s Day and if you live anywhere near Elland Road that means the Valentine’s Fun Fair. Organiser Stewart Robinson will be at Beeston Community Forum next Thursday (2 February) to answer residents questions. Also present will be Ian Mackay who is supporting the Beeston Neighbourhood Plan.
A group of 30 Year 7 and 8 students from the Ruth Gorse Academy visited the Houses of Parliament recently. As well as a tour they had a question and answer session with our MP, Hilary Benn.
The Inner South Neighbourhood Policing Team have been busy. As well as executing a drugs warrant in Middleton, they’ve been clamping down on illegal parking in Cottingley. They are also reminding us not to use our mobile phones whilst driving.
It’s good to see that the gardening group from The Bridge aren’t put off by the cold weather. They’ve been busy planting on their allotment and in the poly tunnel, but the cooking group looked to be keeping warmer!

Congratulations to the Beeston-based White Rose Cheer o2 junior 2 team who claimed second place at their first completion in Level 2.
A 40 metre strip of path might not seem like much of an improvement, but when it replaces a huge puddle and improves access to Middleton Broom it’s important. So hats off to Friends of Middleton Park for raising the funds and getting it done.
And finally, a new multi games session is starting at Cottingley Community Centre on Monday 6 February. The weekly session is for girls and boys aged 6 and above and will run from 4-6pm. The sessions have been funded by the Inner South Community Committee.
