Here’s your regular roundup of what’s making South Leeds tick on other websites, blogs and across Facebook and Twitter.
We start this week down by the River Aire. You may have noticed a lot of activity and several cranes at work over recent months. It’s all down to the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme and work is progressing at a pace. We spotted their fly-through video showing progress at Knostrop, Crown Point, city centre and on the Hol Beck on Twitter.
Students from Leeds University have helped create two new short films for SLATE, the charity that works with people with learning difficulties and runs the Feelgood Furniture Shop in Hunslet and the Feelgood Café at Hillside in Beeston. The films explain more about what SLATE does and their new partnership with John Lewis.
A group of staff and students from the Ruth Gorse Academy in Hunslet took part in a 5k fun run last Sunday (12 March) to raise funds for the Yorkshire Cancer Care Unit.
There are some great photos of children learning to cook at Cottingley Community Centre, although we don’t think they’ll be quite ready to do the catering at the Mothers Day pay-what-you-can-afford meal on 26 March!

Can you help find a new ‘Foxy’ for little Linus Harrison, the boy from Middleton who has autism. A replacement for his worn out toy is needed, but it must be the right one.
Hunslet Carr Residents Association are marking Easter with a coffee morning on Saturday 8; and a children’s egg hunt on Sunday 9 April.
St Luke’s Church in Holbeck announce that a new curate will be joining them in the summer. We’ll join in welcoming Rolf Mason and his family to South Leeds.

And finally, they’ve spotted Scarlet Elf Caps down at Skelton Grange Environment Centre this week (it’s a type of fungi). They are also advertising two children’s bushcraft events for the Easter holidays.
