South Leeds Roundup: Cad Beeston, crafts and cafes

Here’s your regular roundup of what’s making South Leeds tick on other websites, blogs and across Facebook and Twitter.

We start this week with Paul Bullivant who has posted a lovely photo of Cad Beeston, the area’s other medieval building on the Friends of Stank Hall Barn Facebook page.

On the subject of old buildings, the Yorkshire Evening Post highlighted the plight of Hunslet Mill, a grade II* listed building on the river front.

There was some desperately sad news in the Yorkshire Post that Middleton youngster Skye Sutcliffe‘s cancer has returned. The best support we can give the family is to have a massive turn out for Saturday’s sponsored run in Middleton Park. The run is in support of Skye and raising funds for Candlelighters and Delete Blood Cancer charities.

Leeds United are the latest organisation are the latest organisation to sign up as Dementia Friendly. Better Lives For People In Leeds report on a presentation made by Cllr Adam Ogilvie at their last home match.

Did you know there used to be racetrack at Stourton in the 1820s? The Secret Library is a blog that tracks down interesting stories in the central Library’s archives. Last week it told the story of the track that stood on land later occupied by Skelton Grange power station and now the TCV Environment Centre.

Speaking of Skelton Grange Environment Centre they have lots of activities coming up this year from Lino Printing to Wild Food.

If you fancy a bit of bird spotting in Middleton Park, the Friends group have their final activity of the winter programme with a wildlife walk on Sunday at 1pm. Also the Visitor Centre café will now be open every Saturday and Sunday 9am-3pm.

The South Leeds Live At Home scheme, based at St Andrew’s in Beeston, held a well attended  memory café last week. They arte also looking for volunteers to help at their Thursday lunch club.

The Women Peace-ing Together sewing project held its latest workshop at Asha Neighbourhood Project who have posted some photos. The workshop brought women from different backgrounds together to share ideas and sew together.

Lots of photos too of Belle Isle & Middleton in Bloom’s hedge planting in Low Grange Crescent last week with help from BITMO and Keepmoat.

And finally, there are plans for an art and craft fair at Beeston Parish Centre. If you might be interested in having a stall they ask you to get in touch.
