South Leeds Roundup: Blossoms, brochures and Bridlington

Here’s your regular roundup of what’s making South Leeds tick on other websites, blogs and across Facebook and Twitter.

We start this week in Beeston at Holbeck Cemetery (don’cha just love the geograohy of South Leeds?) where the Friends group, the Wednesday Wanderers and volunteers from O2 have all been enjoying the cherry blossom.

Are you set for 4 June? Beeston Festival has published its brochure with details of great live music as well as food, stalls, activities for young people, sports and of course the fun fair.

If you don’t fancy the festival Belle Isle residents are reminded that BITMO’s GATE centre has space left on its Bridlington trip on the same day.

Or you could head down to the viaduct on Bath Road in Holbeck for Slung Low’s How To … Festival, also on Saturday 4 June.

Sporting Chance is a programme Beeston’s Hamara Centre runs in partnership with the Leeds United Foundation. It helps keep young men out of trouble and they are currently looking for suitable people to join the programme.

The Hamara Centre will also be the venue for jobs recruitment fair organised by PATH Yorkshire and Leeds City Council. It takes place on Thursday 26 May from 4-6:30pm.

If you’re planning a trip to this weekend’s Kite Festival why not ride up to the Clearings with the Middleton Railway? The festival takes place on the Clearings and is organised by Friends of Middleton Park and the Northern Kite Group.

The Draft Holbeck Neighbourhood Plan is ready and they want your feedback. You can read the draft plan online, comment online or visit one of the consultation sessions between now and 7 July.

The latest news on HEA’s new website is that the charity has received funding from the developers of the new Victoria Gate shopping centre in town to run a singing group in Holbeck.

Skelton Grange Environment Centre in Stourton is recruiting volunteer officers. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the running of the centre and gain valuable experience.

Leeds Young Archaeologists Club have a bumper session on Saturday (21 May) starting with looking at medieval pottery in Middleton Park in the morning and a visit to Kirkstall Abbey in the afternoon.

Congratulations to Hunslet Club Football’s u21s finishing the season unbeaten & winners of the WRCFA U21 league great achievement by all the squad. Plus: Congrats to the 7s winning the Garforth Junior League cup to round off a great first season
