Situation Leeds on ‘The Corner’ | Saturday 16th May 10am – 10pm

This weekend is the middle weekend of the fortnight that is Situation Leeds -a reference to the Situationist International art movement of the mid-twentieth century- an event that looks at placing art in the public realm and presenting it as a game that people can interact with. So come on out on Saturday and have some fun with us…

Garry Barker ‘The Listening City’

Chapeltown based Artist Garry Barker has secreted a number of ceramic ears around ‘The Corner’ Pocket Sculpture Park and in a nearby street as part of  ‘The Listening City’ -I will leave you to guess which one- with the suggestion that you go out and find them – photograph them (but leave therm where they are) and post the photos on Instagram – don’t give away their locations though, and tag BasementArtsProject and South Leeds Life in them. On Saturday Garry will be back on ‘The Corner’ to ask the public “how can the city listen to you?”

Kate Jennings | Community Canvas ‘This is For you’

Assembly House studio holder and Artist Kate Jennings will be returning to continue work on the canvas that she installed last weekend at the beginning of Situation Leeds, only this time she will be inviting you to join her. You don’t need to have ever picked up a paintbrush before just an adventurous spirit.

From 4pm onwards Lane Shipsey, whose exhibition will open at BasementArtsProject on Tuesday 19th May at 5:30pm will be around ‘The Corner’ offering people the opportunity to have their photographic portraits taken.

Mads McCleary & No Good Name | Clinical Adoration

We even have an unofficial element to proceedings at 6:30pm with a second performance of Clinical Adoration, last performed here on ‘The Corner’ at the opening of our of first exhibition for 2026 ‘Tensile Strength’.

And last but by no means least, as the sun starts to go down at 9:30pm, there will be a screening of ‘More Than Water’ an experimental film produced by the Ad Hoch film collective and made at St Aidan’s Reservoir.

So come and join us for this day of fun and frolics out in the open on ‘The Corner’ Pocket Sculpture Park, Tunstall Road (opposite BasementArtsProject).
