Road safety event this week in Beeston

This Friday (28 April 2017) sees a free local event promoting road safety, between 11.30am-1.30pm at the Hamara Centre in Beeston. It is organised by The Gambia Welfare Society (TGWS) in Leeds, in conjunction with Leeds City Council – and everyone is welcome.

Activities will feature: a reaction timer challenge, to show how long it takes a car to stop; short videos; and presentations on issues including drug use, drink driving, distractions, and more. Refreshments will be provided.

Yanks Sawo, Beeston resident and member of TGWS, commented:

“Road safety is everyone’s business, and we (TGWS) feel strongly the need to ensure that local communities benefit from government projects like this one. We encourage everyone to try to find time for this – especially drivers, but also pedestrians and cyclists.”

Driving laws have been significantly tightened in recent years; for instance, drivers now face losing 6 points and bigger fines for using mobile phones. For further info, click here.
