Reetwirlers Majorettes

Here’s another entry for the St Luke’s CARES Community Awards which has been submitted in support of the Reetwirlers Majorettes group, from Beeston. For details of how YOUR community group can enter please click here.

I would like to nominate Reetwirlers Majorettes for the South Leeds Community Award.

Reetwirlers Majorettes was established 11 years ago now consisting of 30+ girls the troupe is still growing, ranging from three years to young adult age. Consisting of Pom and Baton performances which were performed at a couple of local venues during 2017.

I know the troupe leaders would like to progress the troupe further by creating Military sections having at the moment only having this for their Junior and Senior sections. With the help of an award they would be able to bring this into the Baby Novice and Tiny sections. This would give the girls more opportunities and to perform at as many local events in the LS11 area throughout 2018.

Winning this award would mean so much to the troupe as a whole, having struggled to be unable to source a sponsor for the troupe they have also been unable to secure any local supermarket bag packing events and always try their utmost to raise as much as they can creating race nights and raffles within the troupe.

However the costs of equipment and uniforms is immense and to be able to give the girls of the community more opportunity of doing something they enjoy would be overwhelming.

This would mean the troupe could purchase new equipment and make the troupe more successful in the near future. I asked the girls from each section their feedback here is what they had to say ….

Akira – Junior Section

“We come to learn to dance but also catch up with friends and make new friends too.”

Ellie – Junior Section

“It’s a great environment with great trainers.”

Molly – Junior Section

“We are a family, and dancing with Reetwirlers takes my mind away from the outside world.”

Demi – Tiny Section

“It’s a good chance to learn new stuff.”

Olivia – Baby Section

“Learning how to dance.”

Lexi – Novice Section

“Going to competitions and dancing with my friends.”

Beth L – Senior Section

“It’s my comfort zone and a place to escape the stresses of college. Everyone’s friendly and easy to talk too.”

Faith  – Parent

“Reetwirlers made my daughter feel welcome, it’s a big family, my daughter loves training. Sarah, Rachel,
Lauren and the girls put lots of hours of their own time into running the troupe. As a mum I think they are fabulous.”

I have seen the troupe members build on their self confidence, self belief and have a sense of belonging.

This would help the troupe with so much they are trying to gain but struggle through the lack of funding.
