New shops planned for ex-Tesco site in Middleton

Plans have emerged for a new shopping centre on a site close to the new Asda in Middleton.

Rothstone Estates have revealed plans to include a Lidl and a B&M Homestore alongside others at what will be called St George’s Retail Park. It is claimed the development could create up to 140 jobs. Public consultations are being carried out ahead of a formal planning application.

The site which was formerly a bus garage and then a Co-op depot was bought by Tesco, but they failed to obtain planning permission for a store. Demolition work was carried out three years ago to create a cleared site.

A public exhibition of the proposals will be held at:

St George’s One Stop Centre, Monday 19 September, 3-7pm
