Middleton speeding discussed at New Forest Village residents’ meeting

Local residents attended the latest New Forest Village community meeting in Middleton held at the St George’s Centre.

The residents raised three main points during the meeting:

1)  Speeding and dangerous driving on New Forest Way; residents reported that this occurs at all times of day but mainly on an evening from 5pm onwards. The residents were advised that Rothwell Neighbourhood Policing Team is dealing with this issue as a local priority and were asked to pass any registrations of offending vehicles onto Rothwell NPT.

Residents also raised concerns regarding speeding on St George’s Road since the rubber speed bumps have been removed. Residents have asked if it would be possible for Rothwell NPT to deploy the speed gun and SID device in the area. This will take place over the coming weeks. Councillor Kim Groves and Rothwell NPT intend to have a meeting with the developers with a view to getting speed bumps placed on New Forest Way close to the central square.

2) Drinking and nuisance youths on the plantation fields, no specific area or time given, residents said that it can happen at all times.  PCSO Kieran Murphy agreed to conduct patrols in the area.

3) Nuisance motorcycles and quads on the paths at the far side of the plantation, residents stated that the worst times for this are Sunday afternoons. This information will be passed on to the Police off-road bikers and they will be asked to include this area in their daily patrols.

The date of the next meeting was confirmed as Wednesday, 3 October, at 6.30pm at the St George’s Centre.

      1. No problem! It was originally the 3rd. But has been changed to accommodate one of the councillors.
