A South Leeds community group held a day full of dance and exercise sessions and managed to raise over £1,700 in the process.
MHA Communities South Leeds held their Move-athon event at the St Andrew’s Community Centre in Beeston.
There were five sessions on the day, which included sessions with Yorkshire Dance and Ballroom dancing, and the final amount raised on the day was £1,176. Each session lasted one hour and more than 200 people attended, the day allowed members to try something new and also acted a taster session for new members
There were plenty of refreshments to keep guests hydrated as well as a raffle and tombola.
MHA Communities South Leeds provides a whole range of support and services, including a wide range of activities and events, supported outings, befriending services, interest groups, signposting and other services that enable older people to remain actively involved in their local community.
Joanne Walsh, communities manager for Rothwell and South Leeds said:
“The purpose of the Move-athon Day was to try and encourage our members to try something new but also help to recruit new members. It’s been a while since we did an event like this and it was nice to see the support shown to us. We managed to get a number of people to sign up which was fantastic and will enable us to help and support additional people in the area.
“We had a great turn out, and it was nice to see so many families come and take part. To raise the amount we did is a fantastic achievement, I want to thank everyone for their support and the money will go a long way in supporting members of the community.
“Based on the success this will encourage us to host more events like this in the community and continue to reach as many people as we can. Again, I want to thank everyone for their support and contributions, it is highly appreciated.”
