Local youngsters take the initiative with charity challenge

In family homes across our communities, the same line can be heard: “I’m bored, there’s nothing to do.” Yet two Beeston primary school girls last week turned their holidays to great use, organising a street-side refreshments and table top stall to raise money for charity.

Jadine Thornton and Keira Coop, both 10, spent the full sun-scorched day on the Grovehalls near Old Lane running the stall, serving passers-by with ice-cold drinks (for a bargain 20p!), and selling donated goods. They raised £45 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Jadine commented:

“We did it because some of my family have been helped by Macmillan, and I feel that I’m helping others as well as Macmillan. We are planning to do it again, bigger and better!”
