Local charity asks you to get creative and celebrate nature

Throughout lockdown many of us have grown a new appreciation of the great outdoors, and a better understanding of its impact on our mental health and wellbeing. Inspired by this, local charity Touchstone’s projects Your Space, Mentally Healthy Leeds and the ABCD team have joined together to encourage people to get creative and raise some money for a good cause championing a positive relationship with nature.

The group’s “Nature: Virtual Creative Competition” runs from 18 May – 8 June in aid of Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, a fantastic family-friendly space home to a variety of animals and other wildlife, which has been running for 40 years. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, instead of the usual community activities, educational trips and the special anniversary celebrations the Farm had planned, they’re fighting to protect its financial future.

If you’re interested in taking part in the competition, submissions on the theme of ‘Nature’ are welcomed from people of any age in their chosen art form. This might be photography, music, painting, drawing, short stories, poetry or crafts for example.

What could you win, we hear you ask? Well, you could be in with a chance of winning a £50 voucher towards your creative projects and the top 25 submissions will be published in an online anthology in June 2020.

The group are suggesting entrants make a £5 donation to the Farm via the competition link: www.mvuf.org.uk/touchstone-competition, with all profits going to them directly. Artwork for auction will go live on the Your Space Leeds Facebook page on Monday 22 June, with the money raised also going to Meanwood Valley Urban Farm.
