It’s good to be back

Crowds flocked to Hunslet Gala and Middleton Park Show this weekend (11-12 September 2021) as large scale community events restarted in South Leeds.

South Leeds Life was at both events, handing out newspapers, speaking to readers and taking a few snaps.

Hunslet Gala was postponed from its usual date in June due to Covid, but they enjoyed another sunny afternoon on Saturday. Commenting on Facebook, organisers said:

“(It was) Yet another successful gala, thank you to all the stall holders who came to the gala, thank you to all who visited the gala we had a great day with all the arena acts. Yet again we picked a good day for the weather. It’s nice to see so many support our gala. A special thank you to star spin twirlers who stood in at very short notice.”

And Hilary Benn MP tweeted:

“The Hunslet Gala is back! Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to organise such a great day.

Then on Sunday it was Middleton’s turn to put on the style. The Friends of Middleton Park (FOMP) organise the Great Middleton Park Show each September. Covid stopped them holding in the Park’s centenery year, 2020, but they were back on Sunday. The show has grown over the years from its core flower and produce show to take in entertainment food and stalls.

Alan Shaw, Chair of FOMP, said:

“WOW…what a Show today.
“Thanks to all who helped by volunteering on the day and all our stallholders and performers. Thanks also to the fabulous DJ Danny and the lads from Park’s and Countryside who supported us all day.
“We hope you all enjoyed yourselves today. There certainly seemed to be good natured queues for facepainters, donkey rides, and all the food stalls. And I admit to a cheeky samosa…yummy! And thanks to all our bakers, especially Tamara, Kirsty, Jim and Frances…all delicious cakes…I can tell from personal experience!
“What a great day!”

Hilary Benn MP tweeted:

“A great afternoon at the Great Middleton Park Show. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it such a success.”
