Hunslet shopkeeper on a Christmas mission: can you help?

Hunslet shopkeeper Steve Barron is inviting the community to help him collect warm clothes, to be shared out amongst people who are homeless in Leeds this Christmas.

Steve runs Leasowe Stores and Cafe in Hunslet Carr, and – despite himself suffering multiple break-ins in the past months – is looking to reach out to those less fortunate this festive time.

He and his supporters are asking for donations of coats, jackets, scarves, gloves, jumpers, or similar items; donors are welcome to drop contributions off anytime at the store on Leasowe Road. They are looking to get all donations in by this Friday (14 December), when they will hand over all the contributions to the Leeds Homeless Partnership to distribute.

Steve commented:

“It’s been a difficult few months, with the break-ins – and small traders everywhere are struggling. But there’s always someone less fortunate than yourself, so we’re keen to make a difference this Christmas. We’d be so grateful for any contributions; a little to us is a lot to them.”

Leasowe Stores and Cafe is on Leasowe Garth, facing onto Leasowe Road, near Hunslet Carr Primary School. It now incorporates Barron’s Cafe, previously on Pepper Road.
