Hunslet Hawks hold Primary School Rugby Festival

Hunslet Hawks have been in touch about this week’s schools tag rugby festival:

g Rugby 1We have been working hard over the past five weeks in local South Leeds primary schools coaching children in year two how to play tag rugby league, preparing them to play in a fun tag rugby festival. Hunslet Hawks South Leeds Development Officer Lois Forsell has been coaching in the schools for the past five weeks teaching the children rugby league skills such as playing the ball, passing, catching and much more.

Tag Rugby 3On 22nd April 2013 children from Hugh Gaitskell Primary, Cottingley Academy, Ingram Road Primary, St Anthony’s Primary attended the festival which was both hosted by Beeston Hill St Luke’s Primary and also attended by their year two pupils. The five schools played tag rugby games all afternoon displaying their excellent skills they have developed in their PE lessons. As well as playing rugby the children were also treated to a vist from Hunslet Mascot Harry the Hawk and participated in skills session with local club coach Darrell of Beeston Bronco’s. At the end of the festival each child was presented with a certificate and each school awarded a trophy.

Tag Rugby 2At Hunslet Hawks we are already planning to run another excellent festival for more local South Leeds Schools and hoping to get more youngsters engaged in the brilliant sport that is Rugby League.
