Holbeck: Work continues on new Middle Eastern supermarket

Re-roofing and repairs to the former Kwik Save building in Domestic Street, soon to become a Venue store

Work continues apace to get the old Kwik Save supermarket site ship-shape and ready for a supermarket/cafe/restaurant/takeaway called ‘Venus’.

Venus, at the bottom of Domestic Street, will sell Turkish and Middle Eastern food and drink and will apparently be ‘opening soon’.

In the past week, teams of workmen have been seen re-roofing and making repairs to the outside of the building.

It’s good to see some movement at last on a site which has been abandoned for too long. And a store that will bring more fresh fruit and vegetables into the area has to be welcome, surely?

  1. Since the big guns (Aldi, Tesco, etc) are not prepared to give Holbeck a supermarket we will have to hope that this new Turkish retail outlet will satisfy some, if not all, of its needs. The local people must use it regularly to make it a success.
