Free community camping event returns – sign up now!

The annual South Leeds Community Camp event is back again, overnight on Saturday 15 to Sunday 16 September in Middleton Park – and is open for bookings!

The event features a popular (and spooky!) late-night walk in the woods

This free family event each year (it’s now in its fifth year) sees dozens of local people from across the south Leeds communities camping together in the majestic Middleton Park. It also features games and team challenges, shared meals, a torch-lit walk in the woods (perhaps with a ghost story or two thrown in!), crafts, and more.

The event runs between 2pm on the Saturday until midday on the Sunday (15-16 September 2018). The camp itself will be an enclosed and stewarded zone, near the playground and the visitor centre, off Town Street (LS10 3SH). And crucially, it features a portaloo!

Further info on the event FB page, here. All ages are welcome, but under 18s must be accompanied at all times. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own camping kit, but the organisers can lend out a limited amount of tents and other kit. The event is free, but numbers are limited, and pre-registration is essential: click here to do so. Once you’ve registered, you’ll get sent full event info – and if you want to help out, let the organisers know.

Wayne Dixon, one of the local volunteer organisers, commented:

“It’s great to have the camp coming round again this year. It’s a pretty simple event, but people love it, and it’s getting bigger every year. Every year, it’s amazing to see people from different backgrounds – who ordinarily wouldn’t meet – mixing, having a laugh, learning from one another, and enjoying the amazing park together. We hope to see you all there next month!”

The event is coordinated by Middleton Park FC (Wayne Dixon), the south Leeds ‘Space’ youth project (Ed Carlisle), and other local volunteers – with support from Leeds City Council (Parks and Countryside), Friends of Middleton Park, Hunslet Gala, SLATE, and other partners.
