[slideshow]Views are being sought on proposals to transform the former Yorkshire Chemicals site in Hunslet to house a large, purpose-built data centre.
Applicant Yorkshire Design Group has already outlined how the data centre will be “a catalyst for the creation of a new hub for high technology digital and creative media on the South Bank, and be a positive step for the city centre’s future economic competitiveness and growth in a national and international context”.
The proposed building would be 32 metres high. It would house computer systems and telecommunications and storage systems. It will allow businesses to rent secure IT storage space which minimises the chance of disruption to their business.
The city centre south location, which was occupied by Yorkshire Chemicals before it closed in January 2006, is currently derelict. It’s surrounded by Brewery Wharf, Indigo Blu, New Dock (formerly Clarence Dock), Leeds City Office Park and Crown Point Retail Park.

I really like it, perhaps they could introduce some polished metal to the cladding as well as the matt panels. Hopefully it will attract other high tech businesses to Leeds.
