Discovery Days with Leeds Museums

Leeds Museums has over 1 million objects in its collections, far too many to have on permanent display. It keeps many of them in its state-of-the-art facility: the Leeds Discovery Centre on Carlisle Road in Hunslet.

The centre is holding free discovery sessions with a different theme each week through the school holidays. They are your chance to find out more about the world around us through the objects in the collections.

Indian Summer – Wednesday 14 August 10am-12pm

Meet the World Cultures curator, and explore objects from across India. Learn about traditional Indian celebrations, and enjoy Indian themed craft activities and games before taking a tour of the store, with a focus on objects from around the world.

Marvellous Minerals – Wednesday 21 August 10am-12pm

Leeds Discovery Centre has a huge collection of beautiful crystals and amazing minerals. This session will look at how minerals form, and you will learn how to make your own crystals at home. On the store tour, see what other minerals are hidden away. There might even be some precious ones!

Magnetic Toys & Games – Wednesday 28 August 10am-12pm

Magnets have inspired some of the greatest toys and games. Come along to have a look at a few of the favourites from yesteryear. Have a go at using magnets to make art, and see what other great toys and games are in the store.

These workshops are free, but please book your place by calling (0113) 378 2100 or emailing discovery.centre@leeds.gov.uk.
