Cottingley estate gets spruced up

Cottingley in Bloom mobilised residents and partners to give the estate a tidy up this week.

As the end of the summer approaches, beds were looking overgrown and hedges needed cutting back. So Cottingley in Bloom organised two work days. Over thirty residents turned out and were supported by Groundwork Leeds, volunteers from Mears and McDonalds and staff from Leeds City Council and not forgetting Councillors Adam Ogilvie and Angela Gabriel.

Tasks included clearing and replanting the large planters outside Cottingley Heights, weeding beds, clearing paths, cutting back hedges and litter picking. Organiser Nicola Ramsden from Groundwork said:

“Can I just say a huge thank you to all involved. Everyone worked so hard and Cottingley looks really amazing!”

Seven of the children who joined in have signed up for the Urban Rangers project that will be starting in Cottingley in September. For more information please contact Nicola on (0113) 238 0601 or email: nicola.ramsden@groundwork.org.uk.
