Corinthians untroubled by Skipton

Leeds Corinthians RUFC 63-0 Skipton

Leeds Corinthians RUFC entertained Skipton on Saturday (11 January 2020) knowing they were expected to produce a performance worthy of their top of the league position, and on most fronts didn’t disappoint.

With the game only 2 minutes old full back Gareth Moore crossed for the opening try, 3 minutes later he chipped the defense and recollected to score the second and when flanker Will Craven drove over from a ruck for the third try, Corinthians had a 19-0 lead after only 7 minutes and the game was already lost for Skipton.

They did come back however, but were unable to trouble the scoreboard. Corinthians added 3 further tries in the first half through wing Ellis Robinson, flanker Gareth Thompson and stand off Danny Boyes. Neil Orr added 2 conversions, Moore 3 and a penalty to give the home side a 43-0 half time lead.

Skipton put up a better showing in the second half, but once again the Corinthians defence held firm. Corinthians used the opportunity to rotate players, but were still able to cross for three further tries. Full back Moore crossed for the first two and winger Robinson the final score of the day. Moore added two further conversions for a personal match total of 33 points and Tom Burnell kicked the final conversion to give Corinthians a resounding 63-0 victory.

Their position at the top of the league was strengthened as second place Knottingley lost at Otliensians. Unsurprisingly Gareth Moore was named man of the match.

Corinthians travel to South Yorkshire next week (18 January 2020) as they visit Sheffield Medical Students.

After the game Corinthians held a raffle and collection for Skipton under 8’s player Luke Mortimer who has tragically lost both arms and legs to meningitis. Over £540 was raised on the day with more to follow from the junior section. All at Leeds Corinthians send their best wishes to Luke and his family.
