The Hunslet Club is asking the South Leeds community to have a look at home for any football or rugby boots that are still in good condition but are no longer being used. These old boots could give another young person their chance to play.
At The Hunslet Club, sport has always been about more than just playing a game. For generations of young people in Hunslet, football and rugby have been a big part of growing up, making friends, being part of a team, building confidence, learning new skills and, most importantly, having fun.
For more than 85 years, the club has been here for local young people, providing somewhere to come, somewhere to belong and opportunities to try something new. Football and rugby remain a huge part of that today.
Young people are playing football every week, with 17 junior teams, as well as a thriving rugby programme. With 3G pitches giving even more young people the chance to get involved, the club wants to make sure that having the right pair of boots doesn’t stand in the way.
A spokesperson for The Hunslet Club explained:
“Maybe your child has grown out of them. Maybe they’ve been replaced by a new pair. Or maybe they’ve simply been sitting at the back of a cupboard, waiting for their next outing.
“Whatever their story, your old boots could give another young person their chance to play.
“It might mean joining their friends on the pitch. It might mean trying football or rugby for the very first time. It might mean discovering a sport they love. Or it might simply mean being able to join in without worrying about whether they have the right footwear.
“And that’s what this campaign is really about.
“It’s about making sure young people don’t miss out. Because we know that sometimes the smallest things can make a really big difference.
“A pair of boots might seem like a simple donation, but to a young person, it could be the difference between standing on the sidelines and stepping onto the pitch.
“So, if you’ve got a pair of boots gathering dust at home don’t leave them in the cupboard – give them a new game.”
To donate simply bring your football or rugby boots to The Hunslet Club reception and pop them into the Boot Drop collection box. Please make sure boots are clean and in good, usable condition.
