Clapgate remembers Carry Franklin with sunflowers

Clapgate Primary School remembers teacher and founder of Leeds Little Free Libraries, Carry Franklin, with a field of beautiful sunflowers.

Every child from nursery to year 6 had time recently to remember, share memories and create a stunning sunflower in her memory. The Clapgate Arts Council were responsible for launching the idea at school and wanted the memorial display to be bright and cheerful just like Ms Franklin. The children had access to lots of different art materials to make their flower.

Sunflowers were Ms Franklin’s favourite flower. She enjoyed planting them with the children, harvesting them and then using the flowers in the Art room at Clapgate for observational drawing. Ms Franklin was a longstanding member of staff at Clapgate Primary School.

The children remembered all of the many parts of school life that she contributed to, including art, drama, the Artsmark Award, the launch of the school allotment and camping trips. The stunning field of sunflowers is a beautiful way for the children to remember Ms Franklin.
