Beeston’s clock is ticking again

The clock on St Mary’s Church in Beeston is fully repaired and refurbished thanks to local fundraisers.

The clock had been out of action for some years when Lindsey Pearson, the Vicar of Beeston, started fundraising.
Local Facebook group ‘Save Our Beeston and Holbeck’ took up the challenge and raised £3,000 towards the cost of the restoration.

The clock, made by the famous Leeds clockmaker Thomas Potts, dates back to the 1870s when the church was built.
Save Our Beeston and Holbeck followed up with a Christmas fundraising drive, raising a further £4,000. The money was distributed via local schools as vouchers for struggling families and donations for school equipment.

Donations were also made to the South Leeds Live At Home Scheme and Holbeck Elderly Aid. Sean Sturman from Save Our Beeston and Holbeck praised the generosity of local people.
