Young people from the south Leeds ‘Space’ youth programme are once again this term cooking and hosting (free) community dinners for a wide range of local people to gather, eat, and mark the forthcoming Easter festival together.
The three-course meals are being served on Wednesday 29 March and Friday 31 March 2017, both at 6pm, both in Beeston. All are welcome, but pre-booking is essential (see below), and spaces are filling up fast.
‘Space’ has been running in Beeston since 2004, is connected with Kidz Klub, and – whilst not affiliated to any particular church – is largely funded by the Salvation Army, and supported by church congregations across LS11. About 100 young people aged 11-18 attend the groups each week, and also participate in trips, residentials, and volunteering.
Local resident Mark Hodgkinson, who co-runs the groups, commented:
“We’ve been running these community meals off and on for years, and they’ve been such special little events. It’s so important for young people – in fact, all of us! – to learn the value of serving others; and actually, the youngsters genuinely love the challenge and opportunity that the meals offer.
