Beeston and Holbeck Community Weekend

St Lukes - 2012

Fun is on the menu this weekend (17-18 May 2014) when a group of Americans join members of local churches to stage a weekend of community activities in Beeston and Holbeck.

St Lukes - 2012Activities will include litter picks and a schools football tournament. Organisers have teamed up with Beeston In Bloom to run a hanging basket workshop for residents in the Harlechs. At 10:30am on Saturday there will be a Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Holbeck Community Centre on Elland Road and Afternoon Tea will be served at The Salvation Army on Hunslet Hall Road and Holbeck Community Cenre, both from 1:30-4pm.

The weekend rounds off on Sunday afternoon at St Luke’s Church on Malvern Road where there will be a free barbecue, bouncy castle, face-painting, candy floss and games. The fun runs from 1:30-3pm and has been funded by local Councillors on the Inner South Area Committee.

Anna Smith, one of the organisers said:

“As a group of Christians we believe in a God who loves Beeston and Holbeck and wants to see our communities flourish. He is a God who is willing to come into the mess of our lives to give us hope and bring about change, and so during this weekend we look to practically show the love, hope and life that God has given us.”
