Christmas has come early for the South Leeds Live at Home Scheme after a generous donation and some festive fun from Santa’s little helpers at Asda Beeston.
South Leeds Live at Home Scheme has been recognised for their work in the local community by Asda Beeston, who has secured £1,000 grant from the Asda Foundation to help the scheme provide festive hampers to older people across the community.
Asda’s Christmas community campaign is celebrating the hard work – that often goes unrecognised – of the volunteers, carers and fellow Asda colleagues who dedicate their own time and efforts to helping other people.
Supported by grants from the Asda Foundation, its aim is to help spread festive cheer in local communities throughout December, for those who may need a little extra support this Christmas time.
Steven Navey, General Store Manager for Asda Beeston, said:
“South Leeds Live at Home Scheme is a brilliant project right on our doorstep that provides crucial support and friendship to the area’s senior residents. It’s a privilege to be able to bring some Christmas joy to the people in our community at this special time of the year.”
Jayne Holland from South Leeds Live at Home Scheme said,
“We’ve been working with Asda Beeston and are pleased that we’ve been successful in receiving a grant from the Asda Foundation for £1,000, this money will go towards supporting their Christmas activity for the vulnerable, older people in our community”.
South Leeds Live at Home Scheme provides crucial support, empathy and friendship to the area’s senior residents who are still living in their own home. All too often, for whatever reason, they find that these people can feel lonely, isolated or would just love the chance to get out and meet people like themselves.
With a team of around 60 volunteers, they not only offer a place to come to for support, friendship, conversation and companionship, but also a full range of activities and sessions to keep the members happy, healthy, fit and above all else, give them something they can look forward to and enjoy as and when as they like to do so.
Set up in 1988, the Asda Foundation is a registered charity that aims to have a positive impact on local communities, making independent grants to provide support to a range of local good causes, chosen by Asda’s community life colleagues throughout the UK.
It funds charitable projects and activities what have the ability and potential to achieve change for the better – with the aim of making a significant difference to local communities and the people who live there, both now and in the future.
