  1. Earlier:
A dramatic car chase through #Middleton this afternoon ended after a van that had been stolen moments earlier crashed into a banking on Thorpe Lane.
The drama started when the van was taken by two men from a nearby house and the owner of the van gave chase.

As the van stopped so the thieves could close the rear doors as black vectra that had chased it caught up and the two robbers tried to flee again and drove at a man who was standing in road trapping the man underneath, he was freed when onlookers lifted the van off him.

The robbers fled after threatening others with a knife and ran into a nearby estate.

The police helicopter was called to look for the men who are still at large.

The injured man has been taken to hospital his condition is not known but not thought to be life-threatening.
