An invitation to women and girls in South Leeds

The Leeds Women and Girls Hubs launched one year ago and an incredible amount has been achieved in just 12 months.

The Women’s Hub has been developing the State of Women’s Health Report. Commissioned by Public Health, the report shines the light on the health needs of diverse women in Leeds, identifying what our city does well, and the challenges that women still face.

Data has been collected from health and women’s services, and discussions with women have been taking place across the city to give women the opportunity to have their say and influence the future of services for women. There is still the chance to get involved with this exciting project, visit the Women’s Lives Leeds Facebook page for more details.

Women Friendly Leeds has also been born. A new city-wide initiative to make Leeds a women friendly city by raising awareness and protecting the rights of women and girls and increasing gender equality by involving women and girls in the decision-making process and giving them real social, economic and political power.

Work is currently being done with women and girls across Leeds to develop a brand for this pioneering project, so that it truly is by women and girls, for women and girls. If you would like to be involved get in touch with Women’s Lives Leeds.

The Girls Hub has identified safety as a priority for young women and girls in Leeds. They will be creating a toolkit giving tips on how to stay safe as a young woman in the community, in a relationship, in school and in the city centre. They are also in discussions with Leeds Sexual Health about the new Sexual Health service and the impact this has had on young women and girls.

Are you interested in any of these things? Or perhaps you have something else to say about being a woman or girl in Leeds? If so, then we want you to come and get involved!

The Hubs are open to all women and girls living and working in Leeds and provides the opportunity for them to have a voice in decision-making across our city.

The next Leeds Women’s Hub meeting will take place on Wednesday 6 June 2018 10:30am-1pm at the Bridge Community Church, Rider Street, LS9 7BQ.

If you are aged 13-18 years old then you can have your say by attending the Girls Hub. They will have their next meeting the following day on Thursday 7 June 4:30-6:30pm at First Floor on St Peter’s Square LS9 8AH.
