Hawks take on treble winners in the Lazenby Cup

Hunslet Hawks will welcome Leeds Rhinos to the South Leeds Stadium on Friday 8 January to compete for the annual Leeds Brewery Lazenby Cup.

The game will kick off at 8pm and will be the first time the Lazenby Cup has been played on a evening since the Lazenby Cup was reintroduced back in 2003. The Hawks will be looking for revenge, after the current treble winners came out victorious back in January, when they took the spoils with a 28 points to 14 victory.

Darren Williams, Hunslet Hawks’ Director of Rugby commented:

“It will be great to welcome the Rhinos once again to South Leeds. Our lads will be really looking forward to challenging themselves against the current treble winners.

“It’s going to be a great challenge for our new look squad and it will again provide us with another tough pre season fixture as we complete our preparation looking ahead to our league campaign.”

Tickets for the match will be priced £10 Adults, £5 Concessions, with Under 16s FREE.

Entry to the South Leeds Stadium will change dramatically in 2016, with ‘Smartcards’ being introduced which will be scanned at the turnstiles by electronic readers. This new system will be implemented for the visit of Leeds Rhinos.

Both Leeds Rhinos and Hawks supporters can pay cash on the day at the ticket office, where they will receive a ticket complete with QR code to be read at the turnstile.

Supporters buying season tickets or I Am Hunslet  memberships will get their QR code either on their ‘Hawks Card’ (the new version of the season ticket) or from a printed paper copy, or even directly from their smart phone!

Existing ‘I Am Hunslet’ members and Season Ticket holders will receive their new ‘Hawks Card’ in the post, with instructions on what to do to make it active and there will be a demonstration of how the system will work in the Phoenix Bar on Thursday 17 December as part of the Shirt Launch event.

Commercial Director Ian Johnson commented “The new Smartcard system will really take us forward as a club. Not only will this enable the club to have an accurate count of the attendance at games but in the future it will be possible for the ‘Hawks Card’ to be used as a loyalty card, similar to many shops, and even as a debit card for payment in the Hawks shop and bar,”
