Hunslet St Mary’s young athletes

The children from Hunslet St Marys got the chance to go to Halifax leisure centre and perform at the West Yorkshire U11 Athletics championships in January, having done very well in the Leeds Primary schools Sportshall athletics competitions.

They made it through to represent West Yorkshire in the Yorkshire Regional Championships on Sunday 18th February. They performed very well as part of the West Yorkshire team and managed to win the competition! Superb performances from all the boys this could not have been achieved without the great support from parents and families.

Here are some quotes from some of the boys which really put into perspective their feelings and the massive achievement.

“When I was travelling to the athletics I felt sick, but when I got there I was really excited.

“There were teams from West, East & North Yorkshire. I was in the orange team & I got my Personal Best on speed bounce. I did the Grand Prix and a relay race too. We had a really fun and exciting time.” Billy.

“I felt a little bit nervous but once I did my race I felt fine. It was brilliant when they announced our team had won. I’m really glad I got the chance to join in.” Myles
