Hunslet Nelson are riding high in the league

Five wins since the beginning of June have seen Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI up to second place in the Bradford Premier League Championship 2 division after 12 games.

On 3 June they set Buttershaw St Paul’s a target of 240 and bowled them out for 209. Their match at Keighley a week later was abandoned. On 17 June they defeated Idle. Again batting first they set the visitors a target of 196 to win, but Idle were all out for 147. They travelled to Mirfield on 24 June to take on Hopton Mills. The home side were all out for 119, Hunslet Nelson overhauled the target for the loss of four wickets.

July has seen wins against Spen Victoria and Altofts, neither side managed to make 100 before being bowled out. Their next home game is against top of the table Hartshead Moor on 22 July 2017.

Upcoming fixtures at the club’s Gypsy Lane ground in Beeston are as follows:

  • Saturday 22 July: v Hartshead Moor
  • Saturday 5 August: v Liversage
  • Saturday 19 August: v Buttershaw St Paul’s
  • Saturday 26 August: v Keighley

As well as the First XI, Hunslet Nelson run a number of adult and children’s teams catering for boys and girls aged 5 upwards.
In the summer holidays the club will be running a cricket camp from Monday 14 to Friday 18 August during Enjoy Cricket Week. Boys and girls aged 6-14 can attend the sessions run by qualified ECB level 2 coaches for £8 per day.

Regular Under 9s training takes place on Tuesday evenings 6-7:30pm and Under 11s on Mondays at the same time. All equipment is provided and the first three sessions are free (£3.50 thereafter).
